World's Smallest Police Station
The World’s Smallest Police Station is truly a Carrabelle and Forgotten Coast icon. On March 10, 1963, Johnnie Mirabella, St. Joe Telephone’s lone Carrabelle employee at the time with the help of Curly Messer, who was then a deputy sheriff, moved the original phone booth into place along US Highway 98 and the World’s Smallest Police Station came into being.
While the original World's Smallest Police Station is now safely located and on display inside the Carrabelle History Museum, a replica of the booth is still on display in its original location along U.S. Highway 98 across the street from the Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce/Franklin County Visitor Center at 105 St. James Avenue. This is one of the most popular photo ops in Carrabelle (along with our gorgeous harbor, beautiful beach, historic lighthouse, and stunning sunrises and sunsets.)
It has been featured on television shows Real People, Ripley's Believe It or Not, The Today Show, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. It was featured in the movie Tate's Hell, which was produced at Florida State University.
Go by and take a souvenir picture for your friends and family!
Also be sure to visit the original World’s Smallest Police Station and learn its fascinating history in the Carrabelle History Museum located at 106 SE Avenue B, Carrabelle FL. (Open Wed-Sun. No charge for admission).
