Hurricane Museum:

Carrabelle just dodged the bullet with Hurricane Hermine (August 2016), Tallahassee wasn’t so lucky.  And that basically says it all when it comes to hurricanes – the luck of the draw.  When a hurricane is aimed at your town, it becomes the subject of the hour, and everyone seems to have a favorite hurricane story.  Yes, as destructive as they are, they are also fascinating.  What got this museum started was a curiosity with the Carrabelle Hurricane of 1899.  Carrabelle was a small fishing village in the 1820s.  In the 1850s, the Coombs Mill was build next to the harbor and Carrabelle became a thriving town, with logging, turpentine, and fishing industries.  The hurricane of 1899 changed the dynamics of Carrabelle and the surrounding area forever. The more we researched we decided to add North Florida hurricanes – all the way back to 1528; but we cannot do this alone.  We need community feedback from the people who have the stories, we know there are plenty of stories to share and facts to get straight.North Florida, the Panhandle, the Forgotten Coast, and Carrabelle in particular has amazing hurricane history.  Come and enjoy; tell us your story, we would love to hear it!
